Geotechnical Investigations

Soil Sampling

Soil sampling is carried out for both geotechnical and environmental testing to provide the data for foundation design and contamination assessment. Although generally part of the phase II site investigation, Shire Geotechnical can carry out the stand alone sampling for top soil, validation testing, tanks or pipeline removal and Waste Acceptance Criteria classification. The in situ testing methods include:

  • Standard penetration testing
  • Dynamic probing
  • Hand shear vane testing
  • California bearing ratio tests
  • Mackintosh probing
  • Plate beating tests
