Northampton General Hospital
The £9m project at Northampton General Hospital was a four storey steel framed building, linking in to existing adjacent hospital buildings in six different locations; each floor housing a different medical specialty, including cardiac treatment centre, renal treatment ward, nuclear medicine department and Radiopharmacy clean room suite.
The site was extremely restricted with the new building surrounded by existing on 3 sides and actually built over existing live hospital buildings in 3 separate locations and over an access road into the Hospital.
The steelwork design on the project was complex with the steel frame designed to limit floor vibration in areas of sensitive equipment.
Shire were appointed by the Steel Fabricator to design the steel frame for the building.
