In addition to “traditional” brick, stone and block houses there are a number of different “non-traditional” house types. Many of these were built during the immediate post-war period to give quick and affordable housing. The load-bearing elements of these house types could be timber, concrete, steel frames or a combination of materials.
Some of the “non-traditional” house types can contain hidden defects such as corrosion of embedded steelwork and these properties require careful inspection. Shire have completed the inspection of many different non-traditional house types. We have also worked with Local Authorities to establish schemes that will extend the life of their housing stock.
