Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls
Augusta House at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls was a £3m sixth form boarding house containing forty five en-suite study bedrooms for sixth form pupils, in the centre of the school campus. Each bedroom is furnished with the ultimate in modern boarding facilities, providing spacious single accommodation for the girls, giving them their own personalised living space as well as comfortable, stylish common rooms for socialising and entertaining guests.
The three storey building located on the site of the old car park at the centre of the school was steel framed with precast concrete floor units and a timber roof. The bathrooms for each of the bedrooms were pods constructed off-site and craned onto the concrete floors.
The foundations for the building were constructed from bored piles due to poor ground conditions and to limit the amount of vibration and noise during construction which could have disturbed the surrounding school.
