Bromsgrove Police & Fire Station
This £6.3m collaboration between Worcestershire Police and Fire Departments opened in 2014.
The two storey building is centred around a courtyard area and encompasses a custody suite, two fire appliance bays, a gym, two kitchens and sleeping accommodation.
The overall brief for the building included several challenging aspects in order to make the facility as accessible yet secure as possible. There is a new egress road for the fire engines to escape down to give fast access to the town centre and a reinforced area of the building housing the cells and armoury.
The primary structure of the building is steel framed with precast concrete units forming the first floor and lower roof. The higher roof is supported using Z and C section purlins spanning between the steel structure.
The buildings foundations were constructed using a mix of mass concrete strip footings and reinforced pad bases to support the steel columns and masonry cladding.
