civil and structural projects

Education Sector - Shire Consulting's special relationship with the education sector has led to work for both public and private clients. Recently completed are projects valued at £8m for the Redditch Educational Review on behalf of Worcestershire County Council. Projects commissioned by private clients include the construction of a steel-framed Art, Design and Technology building for Bromsgrove School and new three-storey accommodation building at Dean Close School, Cheltenham.

Ampleforth Abbey and College commissioned Shire Consulting to carry out the civil and structural design for a new boys' boarding house valued at £4.5m. The project involved a piled foundation steel-framed building cut into the hillside and following the contours of the land. Completed in 2001, the project was followed with the design and construction in 2002 of a girls' boarding house valued at £2m.

College projects completed include extensions at Scarborough, Worcester and Redditch where the redevelopment at North East Worcestershire College was valued at £13.5m.

Retail and Leisure Sector - Shire Consulting's steelwork experts have been involved with design features at the Midlands Merry Hill Shopping Complex where large-span frame structures are clad in full height glazed panels and feature stonework. At Lords Cricket Ground we designed the feature staircase.

Industrial and Commercial Sector - Shire Consulting partners with steelwork fabricators in the production of economic structural design solutions. Projects have included warehouse structures, office units for business and technology parks and a steel fabrication workshop valued at £7m. The fabrication area accommodates travelling jib and overhead cranes operating in multi-work sequences within 25 metre clear span transfer bays.

Foot and road bridges of up to 20 metre spans have been completed. An award winning design of footbridge was commissioned from Shire Consulting for Bridgnorth. The design is an 85 metre long cable-stayed tubular steel bridge spanning existing buildings and a main road to link the Severn Valley Steam Railway to the town centre.
